Italian communists joined demonstrators outside the BBC HQ to protest against the fake news in support of US imperialism’s attempted coup in Venezuela churned out by the bourgeois media. Members of the   Pietro Secchia branch of the Communist Party of Italy joined other comrades at the picket in central London last weekend in support of the legitimate president Nicolas Maduro, the Venezuelan people and the Bolivarian revolution and its mobilisation to fend off the threat from US imperialism and its regional lackeys.

Comrades from Britain, Greece, Italy and Israel gathered at the Cable Street memorial in Shadwell on Saturday to remember that epic day in 1936 when Sir Oswald Mosley’s Blackshirts were stopped in their tracks on 4^th October 1936. Communists played a major part in the mobilisation along with members of the Independent Labour Party and the Jewish Ex-Servicemen’s Association, and their efforts were recalled by British, Italian and Greek communists at a ceremony in London’s historic East End last weekend.

NCP leader Andy Brooks and comrades from the Communist Party of Italy’s Pietro Secchia (UK) branch, along with members of the Greek communist party (KKE) and the Communist Party of Israel, paid tribute to the East Enders’ heroic stand against fascism.

On that day some 3,000 Blackshirts and thousands of police were met by a hostile crowd who had erected barricades to stop the fascists marching. After hours of clashes with the police and many arrests, the police told Mosley that the march would have to be abandoned.

The massive mural, painted by a number of local artists, was started in 1979 and finally completed in 1983. The work has been vandalised by fascists several times but it was substantially restored in 2011.

The design was based on original photographs of the battle and the buildings of the day. Some of the people who took part in the battle are depicted in the mural, along with others who symbolise the people of the East End today.

New Communist Party (NCP) leader Andy Brooks joined other anti-fascist campaigners demonstrating outside the Ukrainian embassy in London last weekend. The picket, called by the NCP, Socialist Fight and the British Posadists, was part of an international peace protest called by the Donetsk communist party to mark the anniversary of the beginning of the fascist offensive on 14^th April 2014 that started the civil war and the armed resistance that established the people’s republics in what was once eastern Ukraine. The protest was also supported by members of the London branch of Partido Communista from Italy and other progressive forces.

British imperialism gives military and financial support to the illegal regime in Ukraine, which is propped up by fascist militias that idolise Stepan Bandera, a Second World War Nazi collaborator whose followers massacred Jews and Poles during the German occupation. They later became a willing tool of the CIA to spread terror across Soviet Ukraine and People’s Poland during the Cold War.

A resolution from the Communist Party of Donetsk was read out and Andy Brooks was interviewed by Sputnik International for a report that was published on Monday.

Anti-fascist campaigners returned to the streets of Whitehall in force last weekend in solidarity with the people of the Lugansk and Donetsk republics, and to call for an end to British military aid to the Kiev regime. Eighteen demonstrators including NCP leader Andy Brooks joined the picket opposite Downing Street called by the New Communist Party, Socialist Fight and the British Posadist movement, which was also supported by the British branch of the Communist Party of Italy and the Solidarity with the Anti-Fascist Resistance in Ukraine (SARU) campaign.

Gerry Downing of Socialist Fight took the microphone along with Dermot Hudson from the NCP whilst others gave out leaflets to the passers-by on this busy thoroughfare between Trafalgar Square and Westminster. Many agreed with the sentiments and some even joined us to briefly stand in solidarity with our demands.

The British government has provided military trainers for the Ukrainian army, which includes the fascist militias that were integrated into Ukraine’s armed forces with the blessing of US imperialism.

In February 2014 a fascist-backed coup took place in Ukraine. Two months later neo-Nazi thugs besieged pro-democracy protesters inside the Trade Union House in Odessa before torching it, blocking the exits to trap the victims in the blaze. The Kiev regime says 50 were killed but eyewitnesses believe the true number is well over 100. Not one of the thugs responsible for the murders has been charged because they are followers of the neo-Nazi militias that prop up the corrupt Poroshenko regime that does the bidding of Anglo-American and Franco-German imperialism.

Soon afterwards the people in eastern Ukraine took up the gun to defend themselves from the fascist onslaught and set up their own people’s republics in the Donbas. Almost 4,000 Donbas civilians have been killed by the fascists and the Ukrainian army in the struggle to defend their new-born freedom.
