It’s
with great sadness that the World Federation of Trade Unions received
the shocking news that our comrade Bob Crow, General Secretary of the
National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) had passed
away earlier today, at the early age of 52.
Comrade Bob Crow was born in 1961 and was a life long
fighter, being active in the trade union movement for more than 30
years. In 2002 he was elected General Secretary of the RMT in the UK.
During his life he has participated in and led several important union
struggles, fighting for the rights and the interests of the working
class, gaining the genuine respect and support of his colleagues and
comrades. He was also an active militant of the class oriented trade
union movement on national and international level.
Bob Crow’s demise is a great loss for the World
Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) and the international class oriented
trade union movement.
The WFTU wishes to express its full solidarity with
his union, the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers
(RMT), a WFTU affiliate, and its sincere condolences to his family,
colleagues and friends. In honor of his memory, the WFTU promises to
continue and strengthen our common struggles with the RMT.
