Andy Brooks stresses the role of the Bolsheviks

Millions upon millions of working people all over the world commemorated the  anniversary of the Great October Russian Revolution in 1917 last week. And last Saturday comrades and friends joined them at the NCP’s annual tribute to the 10 days that shook the world.
Representatives from other socialist and solidarity movements as well as members of the Chinese embassy gathered at the Party Centre in London to salute the Bolsheviks who established the first workers and peasants’ republic in November 1917.
Once again the New Worker print shop was transformed for a bar and buffet that paused only for the formal part of the social opened by the NCP’s national chair, Richard Bos.
NCP leader Andy Brooks paid tribute to the achievements of the Soviet Union during its existence and that of the people’s democracies and world communist movement that fights on for the liberation of humanity from oppression and exploitation.
Other speakers included Jiang Zhouteng from the Chinese embassy in London, Ian Donovan of the Consistent Democrats, British Posadist Marie Lynam, Dermot Hudson from the Korean Friendship Association and Theo Russell from the International Ukraine Anti-Fascist Solidarity movement.
No NCP event can end without a collection for the New Worker and Richard Bos continued the tradition with a rousing call in support the £10,000 special appeal. A Chigwell supporter who could not be with us had already given £2,000.  On the night others joined in to push the collection up to a stomping £2,385!

Comrades and friends braved the weather on Saturday to mark the Russian revolution that was, undoubtedly, the greatest event in the 20th Century. Representatives from solidarity movements and members of the Chinese embassy gathered at the Party Centre to salute the Bolsheviks that established the first workers and peasants’ republic in November 1917.

NCP leader Andy Brooks paid tribute to the achievements of the Soviet Union in the 20th Century. Other speakers included Keith Bennett from the Friends of Socialist China, Ian Donovan from the Consistent Democrats, British Posadist Marie Lynam and Theo Russell from the International Ukraine Anti-Fascist Solidarity movement, while Peter Hendy read out a message from Dermot Hudson of the Korean Friendship Association (KFA) who could not join us on the night.
Although the USSR and the people’s democracies of eastern Europe are no more, the spirit of 1917 lives on in China, Cuba, Democratic Korea, Vietnam and Laos, and in the hearts of communists throughout the world, a point stressed during the fighting fund appeal that raised £805 for the New Worker!

 Joint Statement of Communist and Workers' Parties

We honour the great revolutionary leader V.I. Lenin, we are committed to continuing his work!

The Communist and Workers' Parties, which co-sign this Joint Statement, would like also in this way to honor a great revolutionary and theorist of scientific socialism, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, as April 22 marks the 150^th anniversary of his birth.
 Especially in the current conditions, and while the pandemic of CoVID-19 is spreading, tragically demonstrating the great shortages of health systems in capitalist countries as well as the anti-social and parasitic nature of the capitalist system, in the face of the new crisis, the burdens of which will be again put on the workers' shoulders, the aggressive nature of capitalism and the escalation of imperialist competitions, which pose new dangers to peace and peoples, we feel an even greater need to refer to the historical physiognomy of V.I. Lenin. A personality that dedicated his life to the cause of the working class and other popular strata, to the struggle for the abolition of exploitation and the construction of the socialist society.

We honour V.I. Lenin as the founder of the contemporary working-class party, the "party of a new type", which was firmly separated from the opportunism and apostasy of the old social-democratic parties. Such was the Bolshevik Party, which was at the forefront of the class struggle of the proletariat and the other oppressed strata of Russia. Lenin's party led Russia's working class to victory by overthrowing the exploiting classes and establishing the dictatorship of the proletariat, the workers' and peasants' government, in the service of the interests of the many, the exploited and the oppressed. V.I. Lenin defined and substantiated the leading role of the Communist Party, not only in establishing workers' power but also in constructing socialism.

We honour V.I. Lenin as the theorist who, taking into account the particular reality, further developed the constituent parts of Marxism, i.e. philosophy, political economy, and scientific communism. As an opponent of any opportunistic and revisionist distortion of revolutionary theory and practice, dogmatism, sectarianism, and parliamentary illusions, without denying the intervention through the parliament.
His works, such as What the friends of the people are and how they fight the Social-Democrats, The Development of Capitalism in Russia, What Is to Be Done, Two Tactics of Social-Democracy in the Democratic Revolution, Materialism and Empirio-Criticism, Marxism and Revisionism, The Collapse of the Second International, Socialism and War, On the Slogan for the United States of Europe, Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism, The State and Revolution, The April Theses, Left-Wing Communism: An Infantile Disorder, The Immediate Tasks of the Soviet Government, and The Great Initiative are milestones in the propagation and development of Marxism and revolutionary struggle. Lenin's valuable theoretical work is still timely and serves as a beacon for the ideological-political education and action of every new generation of revolutionaries.

We honour V.I. Lenin as the leader of the Great October Socialist Revolution, which about a century ago shook the world. The victorious revolution illuminated the power of the class struggle, the power of the exploited and the oppressed -when they take the case of their interests into their own hands and turn the wheel of history forward- in the direction of social liberation. The October flame led and accelerated the establishment of a number of Communist and revolutionary Workers' parties. Lenin had an insightful strategic ability and skillfully handled alliances, abilities that he devoted to the cause of the socialist revolution.

We honour V.I. Lenin as the leader of the world's first socialist state, which for the first time established workers' power based on new revolutionary institutions, such as the Soviets, sought the economic functioning of society on a new basis, the basis of the satisfaction of contemporary people's needs and the multi-faceted free development of all people, not the profitability of the few. The USSR, the first socialist state in the world, which was realized with the special contribution of V.I. Lenin, brought to the fore new unprecedented economic, social, political, and cultural achievements for the working class and the wider popular strata that had a profound effect on historical progressive developments around the world. It was a support to the peoples in the struggle for socialism and peace.

We honour V.I. Lenin as the great internationalist, the leader who raised the flag of proletarian internationalism against the treacherous attitude of the Second International during the imperialist World War I, opposed bourgeois nationalism and other bourgeois views such as the cosmopolitanism of the capital, and led the establishment of the Third Communist International, which made a major contribution to the international labor and communist movement and today is a basic source for drawing useful lessons from the experience it accumulated through its action. Lenin's positions on colonialism led the Communists to understand the issue of colonies and inspired them to lead the anti-colonial struggles, both in colonial countries and colonies.

We honour V.I. Lenin as the tireless and consistent opponent of the imperialist war, the defender of peoples' struggle for national and social liberation, social justice, peace, and socialism.
The counter-revolution and capitalist restoration cannot conceal the achievements of Socialism. The disasters and injustice we are experiencing, the acute problems and the suffering of the working class, the small-middle strata, the peasantry and the peoples overall caused by capitalist exploitation and oppression, emphasize the necessity and timeliness of socialism all over the world.
The Communist and Workers' Parties denounce the wave of silence as well as the reactionary and anti-communist distortion that has been unleashed around the world by the political forces that serve the interests of the capital against V.I. Lenin to the workers and the youth. We struggle for the continuation of his work, we are committed to continue defending and propagating his legacy and we call on the workers and the people to learn from it.

Andy Brooks recalling the Soviet experience

The Russian revolution was, undoubtedly, the greatest event in the 20th century. Throughout the world communists celebrate its anniversary to salute the Bolsheviks that established the first workers and peasants’ republic in November 1917.

Last Saturday comrades and friends gathered at the New Communist Party’s (NCP) annual tribute to the Party of Lenin and Stalin that inevitably led to the end of the first world war and then went on to build the Soviet power that crushed Nazi Germany to end the second world conflict in 1945.

The New Worker print shop was once again transformed into a bar and buffet, which remained open before and after the formal part of the social that was opened by NCP National Chair, Alex Kempshall. NCP leader Andy Brooks and Dermot Hudson of the Korean Friendship Association (KFA) both spoke about different aspects of the achievements of the Soviet Union. Comrades were then invited to give their own take on the Soviet experience that was eventually brought down in 1991 by treacherous leaders in the service of imperialism.

Although the USSR and the people’s democracies of eastern Europe are no more, the spirit of 1917 lives on today in Cuba, Democratic Korea, China, Vietnam and Laos, and in the hearts of genuine communists throughout the world. The NCP is part of that movement, a point stressed by Theo Russell in a rousing call to support the fighting fund that raised £1,356 for the New Worker!

Communists all around the world celebrated the greatest event in the 20^th century last week in events to mark the 101^st anniversary of the Russian revolution that established the first workers and peasants republic, the USSR. On Saturday comrades and friends gathered to join them at the New Communist Party’s annual tribute to the Bolshevik victory in 1917.

The print shop was, as usual, was transformed into a bar and buffet for comrades to meet friends old and new and greet the honoured guests who joined us on Saturday to honour the generations who fought and built the Soviet Union.

The formal part of the event was opened by Party Chair Alex Kempshall, who introduced the speakers, all of whom were London activists well known to comrades in the room. Dermot Hudson from the Korean Friendship Association and Marie Lynam of the British Posadist movement both talked about the Russian revolution, the achievements of the Soviet Union and the relevance of the Bolshevik experience to the working class today.

NCP leader Andy Brooks spoke on the need to build the revolutionary movement in Britain to build the resistance to austerity and defeat all attempts to reverse the decision to leave the European Union at the 2016 referendum. He said that the Bolshevik revolution in 1917 inevitably led to the end of the first world war the following year and the Soviet Union’s defeat of Nazi Germany was the decisive factor in ending the second world conflict in 1945.

Lenin and Stalin were following in the footsteps of the Paris Commune and the fires of 1917 continue to blaze in Cuba, Democratic Korea, China, Vietnam and Laos today. Although the counter-revolutions that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the people’s governments in eastern Europe were a setback, the world communist movement has revived and continues to fight for peace and socialism and national liberation all over the world.

Other comrades also spoke on this theme, including Theo Russell who pointed to the flag of the Donetsk People’s Republic in the Donbas on the wall and called on everyone to help build solidarity with the Donbas republics and the anti-fascist resistance in Ukraine.

Everyone spoke of the inspiration that the Great October Revolution had given to the oppressed all around the world. Workers, led by the Bolsheviks, had overthrown a mighty imperialist empire and then defeated the reactionary armies, backed by the imperialist powers, during the Civil War to build the Soviet state that turned an economically backward country, barely emerging from feudalism in some parts, into a world power.

  This was taken up by Alex in his appeal for the New Worker fighting fund to keep our communist press going, which raised £320 for our communist weekly!
